YTB International #35 in Prestigious Travel Weekly's 2007 Power List
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) July 3, 2007 -- Travel Weekly, a travel magazine with a circulation of over 51,000 travel agents, business owners and executives announced their 2007 Power List last month. A little known but explosive company named YTB International ranked #35 out of 53 giant travel companies.
That the six-year old on-line company, sold over $226 million dollars of travel in 2006 does not make it unique. What does make the company unique, however, is the company's business model and goal of $1 billion in travel sales in 2007 and becoming the largest travel company in the world by 2011.
The publicly traded company, based in Wood River, Ill, outside of St. Louis, is a network marketing company, meaning its current army of approximately 61,000 agents sell the majority of the company's travel. There is an additional 100 people in the company's 120,000 square foot building's call center. Most of the staff are travel agents, according to Lloyd Tomer, the company's founder and Chairman.
Mark Archer, an Internet marketing expert, YTB Rep and founder of the popular blog, http://www.theytb.com states in a recent interview, "Referral marketing has been around for a long time. It wasn't until Amazon.com launched their highly successful affiliate program did people really take this business seriously. That's the beauty of YTB. Lots of people doubt us, but we continually prove ourselves over and over again."
Costing $450 to join and $50 a month for hosting and service, independent reps throughout the country are referring their friends, families and colleagues to their own travel websites. Today, YTB's travel business is about 40% air, and 30% to 35% cruise, according to Kim Sorensen, President of YTB Travel Network. Tours, hotel and rental car account for the rest. In an interview with Travel Weekly, Kim Sorensen said, "We primarily see ourselves as a cruise agency. The cruise lines help train our people. Carnival is our best partner. They were first to see we emphasized selling travel, not just a card."
Additionally, qualified YTB reps can earn CLIA cards and IATAN cards which give the agents additional travel perks and deep discounts on travel.
Archer says with a smile, "Where else can you work your own hours from your laptop, sell travel and be eligible for wholesale travel packages? It is really a great deal. I can literally login to my back-office and find thousands of travel packages for pennies on the dollar. My wife just found a cruise for 7 days to Europe for $300. I think the wholesale travel discounts are one of the best-kept secrets in the industry."
The company is debt free, and has quadrupled its business each year.
