New York State Trial Lawyers Association President Jeff S. Korek Addresses American Justice Association's 2008 Annual Convention on "Resort-Tort Law
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 25, 2008 -- New York State Trial Lawyers Association President Jeff S. Korek discusses "Resort-Tort Law in New York State" at the American Justice Association's 2008 Annual Convention in Philadelphia, PA. July 12-16.
"I hope my fellow trial attorneys gain a deeper understanding of the complexity of personal injury torts and how they apply in New York City," says Korek, a specialist in medical malpractice and construction accidents, "particularly given its millions of annual visitors."
In his presentation, Korek notes that inevitably numerous personal injuries occur in New York City, given its dense population, its fast paced tempo and its more than 40 million annual visitors. These injuries include slips and falls, trips and falls, elevator injuries, medical malpractice, labor injuries and injuries occurring when using public or private transportation.
In all of these personal injury situations, there are many torts governing not only the type of accident but precisely where it occurred, how it occurred and how the person injured should make a claim. For example, if a person slips and falls on a sidewalk that abuts a commercial building and some residential buildings, the City is not liable but the property owner is. However, if that same person slips and falls on a sidewalk that abuts a one, two or three person residential property, then the City of New York is liable.
Due to this complexity, Korek advises that soon after an accident, the visitor should seek an experienced personal injury attorney familiar with these statutes.
